Jennifer, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of declawing a cat because I think it's inhumane for a handful of reasons. I, too, think that people should reconsider getting a cat if they don't fancy their little claws. :)

It's good to hear that you saved your cat's life AND that you trained him in a way that didn't involve taking away what he was rightfully born with.

It's not just their paws that suffer either, their whole muscle structure will stiffen and cramp! Cats use their claws to help anchor themselves so they can stretch their muscles out.

My cat has two things he's allowed to scratch on, his post and the back of this chair (I rescued it from the garbage, and don't expect it to live long enough to be destroyed). Everything else resulted in the spray bottle, or the canned air (not at him! He hates the sound) and it only took a few weeks for him to learn!

If you're furniture is so important to your life that a single mark on them causes you to send kitty off for surgery, perhaps you should be re thinking cats.

Some homeless people take on responsibility for a stray that befriends them. Regardless of whether the homeless person was the owner before becoming homeless, or if they are providing for a stray, I always go out of my way to give to those homeless who have four-legged companions.

Well said, it's indecent that people buy animals when there are so many out there in need of a good home. Keep spreading the message!

Comment on Veganism, Vegetarianism, or Omnivore–Are You a Terrible Person For Eating Meat? by missmistymoo

I've been a vegan for about a year and a half and honestly, it comes down to what you need to do to survive and what makes you happy. If you are torn, maybe your heart is telling you to try an 'alternate' lifestyle.
I do agree with you that the statement 'meat is murder' is a harsh one. But, every veg goes that way for their own reasons. I feel like I have a voice in a society where I have been deemed voiceless in the tragedy of the war in Iraq. So I can stop violence in this aspect. Plus, the politics and economics that surrounds the meat industry is almost as sickening as the slaughter.
Do what you gotta do. It's your life and you have to live it that way. No one can force you to eat in a way in which you don't want to.
